Never Too Late

Alice Tan Ridly has got the whole reality competition show Cinderella story down.

After years of singing in New York subways, she is finally sharing her vocal talents with America. She’s also got some star power being Oscar nominee and press darling, Precious star Gabourey Sidibe’s mother.  And, this lady can sing.

Holy moly can she sing.

Hearing her story all over the radio, TV and on the internet today makes me want to share this story with a special someone in my life.

This person is absolutely amazing. They can do anything they set their mind to. Anything. Just hearing their story and how much they’ve achieved in their life is groundbreaking and jaw-dropping. The sacrifices, the pain, the struggles, the independence.

And yet. And yet this person seems to think that the time to get their dreams accomplished is over.  Their ship has sailed.  It’s too late.  They still have dreams. Many many of them. But they seem to think it revolves around helping those people around them reach their dreams.  They’re investing everything into what their loved ones want to do.

Call me selfish but I think my special someone needs to stand up and say, “hey, it’s not too late for me to accomplish my dreams either. Yea, there are X, X, and X against me but the truth is, there are different Xs against everyone.”

Hopefully Ms. Ridley’s story will inspire more people out there to think that it’s not too late to make their dreams come true.  Those who think they are too old, too young, too dumb, too fat, too short, too nice.  In the words of the wise: just do it.
