Party Like a Rockstar

Tuesday, 08.31.2010

In this new era of social marketing, rules have changed. No more will a mere movie poster taped on the poles of the neighborhood mall suffice to bring in the box office bucks. To get something out there, one usually needs to resort to a type of guerrilla marketing, appealing to your clients and audiences and guests and customers in different, clever, unique ways. Swag bags, celebrity appearances, giveaways have all been proven effective methods to target the market.

Or, you could just invite them out to a party.

Me and a few blogger friends decided to throw a terrarium party on Saturday.  Or, as I like to call it, a PLANT POTTING PARTY!! (Say that 10x fast)

We had a fantastic terrarium instructor, Kit Kan (of Branch of Life LA) come to teach us how to create mini-ecosystems  that are not only environmentally friendly, but also pleasing to the eye.

Our artistic skills were put to the test amidst all the greenery, Clementine-catered food and nature-sometimes a little too much nature (as the worm on the picture below will tell you).

Our finished creations garnered a bit of a competitive spirit. (Okay, mostly spirited from me.) Which of these do YOU think looks the best? (Pick mine, pick mine!)

After spending a sweet afternoon in the sun, we headed on over to get our groove on at Libertine on Sunset for an Audrey and Angry Asian Man co-hosted after party for the film, The People I’ve Slept With. Cast members, audience members, my pals and coworkers all came out to support this funny and surprisingly insightful film.

I actually love the concept of using parties to spread publicity. You’re getting cool people together to socialize and get to know each other but you’re also raising awareness for something (even if it is only a movie or some plants).

Don’t let Mike’s face fool you. He had fun too. Right Mike, right?

Come party with us next time!

Be Sociable, Share!

I have this problem. I have a need to share with the world my passions and interests and hope that they will also enjoy it. Hence, this blog is born- to showcase some of the things I'm most fascinated with. Most of the posts relate to the media as it relates to me. (Blame the early twenties neurosis of thinking the world revolves around you). (More..)
