I’m a cheapo.
A bargain-shopping, coupon clipping, long-line standing, freebie grabbing bonafide cheapo.
Sure, I like nice dinners and boat trips and movies as much as the next girl but these things are a whole lot better when it’s free! I think people just don’t realize that with a little bit of creativity, some part persistence and patience, and a whole lot of unabashed shamelessness, the world can be yours for the taking! (Okay, and batting the eyelashes and flashing a smile doesn’t hurt either.) But then again, some people are also not very partial to free things. Whether it be pride or personal preference or lacking that whole unabashed shamelessness bit, many prefer to just pay their dues. And to those I say, “good for you! I so admire that quality! Now can you please move out of the way so I can grab that unopened box of Thin Mints just lying there on the floor?” (True story.)
The past couple of weeks have been filled with wonderful invites to free events and chances to nab some goodies.
The Assistant Extraordinaire charmed her way into some amazing orchestra seats for the much sought-after Glee summer tour at the Gibson Theater from her benevolent Big Boss and took me along for the ride!
We were oh-so-humbled to be able to hob nob with high-level execs at the exclusive 20th Century Fox pre-show cocktail party where some expressed surprise at two little Asian girls overdressed for the occasion, munching on cheese and sipping some mojitos but anyone with class clearly knew we were totally in our element.
The lovely party ended with some swanky swag bags…
…that contained my second favorite gift of the night: a much useful (and needed) thumb drive!
Last weekend, I got to check out the LA leg of the APAHM tour featuring Taiwanese pop stars Van Ness Wu, JJ Lin, Evonne Hsu and DJ Mike Relm. Van Ness, from my FAVORITE CHINESE BOY BAND EVER F4! (I told you, no shame) was the only artist whose music I was familiar with but he actually ended up not being at this concert! Surprisingly, the other acts were very very good. JJ Lin and Evonne Hsu are legit performers! I only fell asleep for a little portion of it (and if you know me, you would know that is quite an accomplishment). Thanks for the tix, Ronnie!
At work, I get the lovely privilege of dining with the formidable freebie-nabber on a weekly basis. We checked out our new work commissary where to our delight, (hers just slightly more than mine) they’re giving away free sweets!
These are some of the most delicious chocolate banana cupcakes I’ve ever had. Probably because they were free.
Yep, life is really sweet (pun always intended) to me these days. And I’m not even counting all the other freebies I enjoy on a day-to-day basis; my mother’s love for me, my aunts doing my laundry, my coworkers’ smiles, my patient friends therapists who have to endure all my whines and moans. The joy of receiving all this free stuff is only amplified by the knowledge and satisfaction in knowing that I have already received the ultimate gift. It allows me to appreciate everything even more.
I’m not all about the take, take, taking. I like to give too. My favorite gift from my Glee swag bag was this sublime red hoodie. And I’m giving it away.
It’s a size small but it swims on me and I’m a giant. If you win this, you would also have the distinct honor of matching with the one and only Helen Wong. Who doesn’t want that? All you have to do is check out this site here and vote for me to be on Oprah’s search for the next TV star! I’m hoping to get up to 10,000 votes by noon the end of this week. I know it’s a very daunting task but I know with all your help, I can get there!
To win the hoodie pictured above, please click, click, click until I get closer to 10,000 votes and do one of the following:
Post this link on your twitter or facebook.
Blog about this on your website.
Email your chums.
And then, please comment after this post and let me know a) where you have posted the link and b) something amazing and free that you have received recently.
On Friday, 6/4, one random comment will score that stylish and comfortable hoodie hand-delivered or mailed to you by yours truly.
Good luck and thanks once again for all your support! (Thank your fingers for me as well).

I have this problem. I have a need to share with the world my passions and interests and hope that they will also enjoy it. Hence, this blog is born- to showcase some of the things I'm most fascinated with. Most of the posts relate to the media as it relates to me. (Blame the early twenties neurosis of thinking the world revolves around you). (More..)
