Airing Out Your Dirty Laundry

Some people I know have been having a Facebook war of sorts. They’re leaving cryptic statuses with quotes and attacks for each other.

I, understanding a little more about their relationship than their Facebook friends may, find this somewhat amusing that it is in such a public forum where they choose to unleash their anger and communicate with each other.

Mark (played by Jesse) chose the internet to lash out at an ex and look where it got him–billions of dollars and eternal infamy–what was my lesson again?

I know, I’m a blogger. I should find this most reasonable. However, in dealing with my friendships and relationships, I use blogging as a way to share my side of the story and to provide an outlet for me to express my feelings–NOT as a way to communicate with my loved ones and acquaintances.

Like those celebrities who constantly like to air their dirty laundry to the world (*ahem Lohans), I find it puzzling when people take to the public forums to duke out their differences.  Twitter wars…emo Tumblr updates…people, just pick up the phone and call one another.

I know I sometimes already reveal a little too much to the world–more so than my mama would like. You already know I look like this when I sleep:

You already know how my heart breaks.

You already know that I bid for this and that contest–and have not yet won.

Yet, there’s still a lot more about me I choose not to reveal to the world except those closest to me. I think this private part of me is much thanks to my momma who raised me to be fully aware that anything I would not want HER to spot on the internet, I should not be sharing.  My mom is more tech-savvy than I am and VERY opinionated when it comes to what I should put up there.

It’s because of her that you guys don’t get to hear about my secret third nipple or how I love to bite my toenails and then eat it or my secret mad crushes on gingers. (Just kidding, all of these are not true…) But yea, my mom is my privacy police and I’m all the more grateful for it. Lord knows what sorts of stuff my mouth (or keyboard) would be spouting if not for her.

So some words of advice for my quarreling friends (and we are friends, are we not? Facebook seems to think so): as amusing as we are all to read about how disappointed or aggravated or sad you are by how things turn out, and I’m sure you’re feeling some sort of consolation with everyone “liking” your status updates and commenting and agreeing with you, what you really should do is just talk it out with whomever you are in contention with.  I mean, if that person really mattered that much to you, you sure aren’t showing it by having a third-wall communication with them via a public Facebook.

Anyone else find it really ironic I’m giving this piece of advice to them via a vague blog post? That’s just how I roll, baby.

Post written in amusement. Please do not think I actually really care and judge you on your Facebook statuses. It’s a free country, yO! Oh, and to those who think this post is about them, I say this:

“You’re so vain, you probably think this song is about you.”
