Demi Lovato Kind Of Rocks…

Really digging Demi Lovato’s new song, Skyscraper.

Lauded as the breakout single for her after coming out of rehab late last year, the song hits an emotional core for those going through all types of challenges and depression in their walks of life.

Though I have never been a huge fan of Demi Lovato (her saccharine smile was an overkill for even my standard of perkiness) I am really impressed with how she has been dealing with her depression and eating disorder under the public eye. This interview she gave to Ryan Seacrest brought tears to my eyes.

Being a girl (and even some boys) in this world, it’s kind of hard not to go through an eating disorder. Almost everyone I know has been somewhat of a victim at some point in their lives. (And if you’re thinking to yourself, “I haven’t,” just remember back to all the times of saying, “I feel fat” or “Ugh, I look like a cow.”)

I know I myself definitely spend way too much of my day thinking about why my clothes don’t fit the way that I want it to or lusting after that piece of chocolate cake (or feeling guilty after I’ve had that piece of chocolate cake). Though I never got to the point where I stuck a finger down my throat or survived on three pieces of watermelon for meals, I know first-hand that eating disorders are deadly, dangerous and more common than one might think.

Good for Demi for coming out to the world with her problems. She even hit the nail in the head when she talked about how she was scared to open up at first because of this pressure she had to not become “one of those troubled starlets.”

“I decided I had to put myself first,” Demi then realized. She then went on to step out and say she need to stop this destructive behavior, she needed to put her success and her career on hiatus, she needed to seek help and actively get her life on track.

That takes a lot of courage to do. Demi also acknowledges that she will have her ups and downs, that it’s a day-to-day struggle and her acknowledgement of that is already a step forward in the right direction.

It would be easy to peg Demi as just another troubled starlet but I think her honesty, candor and determination to actively turn away from her troubles and turn her position as a public figure into a speakerphone for others is admirable to the fullest.

I only hope the rest of Hollywood can follow suit.

I have this problem. I have a need to share with the world my passions and interests and hope that they will also enjoy it. Hence, this blog is born- to showcase some of the things I'm most fascinated with. Most of the posts relate to the media as it relates to me. (Blame the early twenties neurosis of thinking the world revolves around you). (More..)
