How Kobe Can Afford His Kobe Beef
Though I have lived in California all my life, walking the walk in my flip flops and talking the talk in my slight valley girl twinge, there is one question I am always asking:
“Is it still basketball season?”
That may seem crazy to ask for one whose place of residence is home to the top NBA team in America (or are they? Beats me): The Los Angeles Lakers. I’m just asking ’cause it seems to me like it’s always basketball season. You’d think now that I hang out with a man who loves sports almost as much as he loves his mama (and that’s a lot) and have friends who tweet this game or that game commentary every few minutes and have boy cousins who own all things purple and gold, that I would be more educated on the subject. No dunk here. (Or do they make dunks? Beats me.)
I may not know much about basketball but I do know slightly more about the media industry and I know NBA superstar Kobe Bryant is making a heckuva lot more off-court than on. And that’s a lot. You got to give props to the guy. He’s willing to shed his black mumba mojo (and dare I say slight dignity?) to mug for the cameras in commercials both in the US and overseas and bring home the kobe beef. Here are a couple that made me chuckle.
Guitar Hero
Bryant, Michael Phelps, Tony Hawk and Alex Rodriguez rocking out in pink shirts? Sign me up for this concert!
Turkish Airlines
As official ambassador for the airline company, Bryant shows off his (if slightly demure) goofy side again.
Sprite
They must be paying you big bucks for you to allow a fluffy-haired (yet talented) boy popstar whup your butt in basketball.
Smart Car
What campy fun. This action-packed commercial also happened to be one I auditioned for! (Just had to throw that in there.)
Though Kobe may not entertain me on basketball courts (I know, I know, you can pound me over the head with your basketballs now), he sure can in these commercials! Aaaand that is pretty much the furthest extent which you will hear me blog about sports now and forever more.
And seriously, is it still basketball season?

I have this problem. I have a need to share with the world my passions and interests and hope that they will also enjoy it. Hence, this blog is born- to showcase some of the things I'm most fascinated with. Most of the posts relate to the media as it relates to me. (Blame the early twenties neurosis of thinking the world revolves around you). (More..)
