Titanic | Some Thoughts
I’ll admit, I wasn’t the most thrilled when my cuz suggested that we watch Titanic 3-D for the evening. But I went along for the ride. (Err… but not on the ship) And I couldn’t believe how after 15 years, after my 5th time watching it, the movie remains as good as ever.
The excellent direction and filmography from James Cameron, the electric chemistry between Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, the major themes explored in the film, including social classes, duties of a gentleman, rights of a woman, and freedom.

Some thoughts:
*It’s been 15 years since Titanic first premiered in theaters, people. Take that in.
*Billy Zane‘s hair! And eyebrows!
*Wow Billy Zane’s Cal was such a jerk. Several of my movie compadres thought that when Cal came back for Rose those last few times, it was because he loved her. I say it’s because he loves winning and going back for her would mean #winning. And also, Sis says the last time he went back for her, it was for the necklace. What say you?
*If your mother is a gold-digging social climber who pulls your corset in too tight, you run away with the first pretty cabin boy that saves you from committing suicide, y’hear?
*Leo is really pretty.
*Don’t know if it’s because I just got used to Kate Winslet’s face but she’s prettier than I remember when I first watched the film.
*And her body is pretty fly too. *Whistle
*And her outfits are really pretty too.
*Wait, do I like Leo or Kate?
*I wonder if kids watching the movie for the first time these days even understand the relevance to the last quarter of the film where it was mostly men running around being dignified/undignified. I wonder if they think it’s weird that you would give your seats to women and kids.
*Did chivalry go down with the Titanic? This article poses some questions.
*Rose on choosing Jack over Cal: “It doesn’t make any sense. That’s why I trust it”… say what?
*Rose on believing Jack didn’t steal the necklace (oops spoiler): “I didn’t just realize (you didn’t take it), I knew it all along.” Pardon the paraphrase. And once again… say what?
*The two old couple holding each other in the bed scene makes me cry every time.
*Also the scene when the orchestra plays til the very end.
*Also the scene when the captain goes down with the ship. (I am just a big crybaby)
*The times when people think they’re going to die, you really get to see who they are as a person. Caring/malicious/cowardly/courageous, etc. etc.
*Rose said, “I’ll never let go, Jack,” AND THEN SHE LET GO!
*It was really fun watching the movie sitting next to Sis. We laughed at all the inappropriate parts as though we were 8 and 11 years old again.
Did you watch/re-watch Titanic this time around? Thoughts?
How Talking About Jeremy Lin Got Me On Wall Street Journal
I’m sick of talking about Jeremy Lin, I swear.
But I do still love Jeremy! And I talked to Wall Street Journal about it!
For the post that started it all, check here.
Dia Dominates ‘The Voice’
Now that The Voice fever has officially swept the nation, my Facebook news feed, and the Audrey office, I can finally voice (heh heh) my love for the top 4 finalists.
Beverly McClellan, Vicci Martinez, and Javier Colon are all freakin’ telegenic mofos who have more talent in their pinky finger than my whole 5’7″ frame so forgive me for being a little jealous. However, the one I’m rooting for will definitely have to be the soft-spoken folksy half-Korean Dia Frampton.
Reese Witherspoon Rocks

I rarely watch movie awards, especially the MTV Movie Awards because frankly, it’s a pile of trash and in the words of a friend, should be renamed “The Twilight Awards.”
But I happened to be working and being the massive multi-tasker that I am, I switch on the old television for…”research purposes.”
After sticking through hours of penis jokes (that aren’t funny) and watching Robert Pattinson make a total fool out of himself (as if playing an emo pale-faced bloodsucker wasn’t foolish enough), I stumbled across a gem of a speech Reese Witherspoon gave upon accepting her Generation Award.
“I just want to say to all the girls out there, I know it’s cool to be bad, I get it,” she said. “But it’s also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show! When I came up in this business, if you had a sex tape, you were embarrassed and you hid it under your bed. And if you take naked pictures of yourself with your cell phone, you hide your face!” Witherspoon ends with a smiling, “It’s possible to be a good girl. I’m gonna try to make it cool!”
I think you’re cool, Reese!
How Kobe Can Afford His Kobe Beef
Though I have lived in California all my life, walking the walk in my flip flops and talking the talk in my slight valley girl twinge, there is one question I am always asking:
“Is it still basketball season?”
Why Vanessa Why?

Dear Vanessa Hudgens,
It’s me, Janice. You don’t know me but I am quite familiar with you and your public persona. I’ve been one of your early fans, following you from your ascent as Miss High School Musical, singing and dancing your way to the top of Disney royalty as giggly Gabriella Montez. I remember when you first came onscreen–pretty girl, sweet voice, what’s not to love?
Lisa Ling on Faith
Got to chat with Lisa Ling awhile ago about her new show, Our America. Some point in our conversation, we started getting deep. I had heard her speak on another show about how her new series deals a lot with faith–mainly her own exploration of it. That fascinated me–a journalist willing to explore something so not factually based, so often-divided, so often taboo to explore. (Though I suppose taboo is Ms. Ling’s favorite type of subjects to explore.)
More Munn Madness
I would have to say that our Spring cover was a success! Olivia Munn is a Hollywood It Girl right now and after passing the pdf files of the story to her publicists, our story content somehow leaked to Just Jared. (No complaints here. We’re grateful for the publicity.)
At first, I was thinking of keeping the feature under wraps until the issue has been on the stands for a couple of weeks but since they’re all over the internet now (thanks to the other JJ), might as well plop it on here for your viewing pleasure.
Taylor is Swift (with the men)
I kind of gave up on reading celebrity gossip sites religiously awhile ago.
I realized I could do without the meanness and spite found in some of them and the superficiality and celebrity-obsessiveness found in others. When I read these sites and magazines for a long period of time, I notice I tend to start to envy the rich and the famous and to place them on a pedestal and to evaluate why I am not as cool as them, as rich, as well-dressed, as hot, as happy. I understand, of course, that this is all a faux sense of reality I create just because I enrapture myself in that world.
I still think of myself as pretty caught up with entertainment news though. As someone who wants a career in that industry, it’s pretty important to know your beat. Kinda crucial for the job and all. I like stuff that is well-written and informative and just a little bit juicy (who doesn’t?). Stuff like Entertainment Weekly.
BUT I JUST HAD TO SHARE MY RECENT ADDICTION TO TAYLOR SWIFT’S LOVE LIFE!!

I have this problem. I have a need to share with the world my passions and interests and hope that they will also enjoy it. Hence, this blog is born- to showcase some of the things I'm most fascinated with. Most of the posts relate to the media as it relates to me. (Blame the early twenties neurosis of thinking the world revolves around you). (More..)
