Motivational Monday | “It’s Not Who You Are That Holds You Back…

There is someone really close to me in my life that has a trait I highly value. Though this person is nowhere near perfect — overly impatient, lives in their own world, pushy, a big baby, they have this one single-standing trait that means the world to me.

Their unshakable sense of confidence in me.  No matter what it is, they believe I can achieve it. No matter what the odds are, they think I can beat it. Their faith in me often comes across as self-delusion but really, it’s just magical.

It’s really something I wish I had more of in myself. (And that I wish this person would have more of for themselves.)

As these days are passing by, I’m really finding that I think I’m not a lot of things. I think I’m not skinny enough to be a model. I’m no composed enough to be an anchor. I’m not young enough to pursue acting. I’m not smart enough to write a Pulitzer-prize winning novel. I’m not daring enough to start my own business. I’m not creative enough to craft things out of thin air. But really, this is all BS because in actuality there is just one thing I’m not.

Faithful Cialis Online enough. Faithful to myself and to God.

Because really, if I truly believe I am a child of God and that He has the power and ability to do all things, then shouldn’t I rest in that and communicate to him what I know and trust that he will know best to provide?

“For nothing will be impossible with God.”

My sis and I are hardcore fans of The Voice. It’s that singing competition show where four celeb judges pluck contestants solely based on their voices and give them a chance to compete to become a singing sensation. With so many other singing shows out there, we wonder why we are so addicted to this particular one. In part it is because of the judges, Adam Levine, Cee-lo Green, Christina Aguilera, and Blake Shelton’s great chemistry with one another but also because — more so than other singing competition shows — it contains a true vibe of the belief that no matter who you are or where you came from, it’s never too late for you to have that moment to shine. All of these people, to some extent, got over their past to get on that stage and sing.

Time for me to do the same.

Oh Happy Day!

Sunday, 09.4.2011

One of the best classes I took during my undergrad at UCLA was this Gospel Choir class every Friday morning.

At that time, I had just wanted something fun and the class was fun, indeed.

With a teacher behind the pianos, we went through gospel songs celebrating and appreciating God. At that time, an atheist me just found the songs to be delicious to sing and dance to. Let the hands clap! Let the voices tremor! Gospel Choir easily became the one class I most looked forward to every week, even though it meant I would actually have to wake my butt up and get to campus every Friday.

Now, I can see that I was being drawn to the light and to the Lord because it is inherently right to be praising the Lord for all that He has done for us and for all that He is.

And I know I’m not the only one who thinks so.  WitnessLA posted about Jesus showing up at Oprah’s Legends Ball earlier this summer. Take a look. It’s moving.

Happy Sunday, all!

So Jelly!

Thursday, 06.30.2011

My sister, Jessica Jann is so freakin’ cute. If she weren’t my sister, I’d be green with envy at the awesome life she’s having and all the blessings she’s had.

She’s young, she’s beautiful, she’s charming, and she booked a commercial for one of the top food chains in Hong Kong.

Dia Dominates ‘The Voice’

Wednesday, 06.29.2011

Now that The Voice fever has officially swept the nation, my Facebook news feed, and the Audrey office, I can finally voice (heh heh) my love for the top 4 finalists.

Beverly McClellan, Vicci Martinez, and Javier Colon are all freakin’ telegenic mofos who have more talent in their pinky finger than my whole 5’7″ frame so forgive me for being a little jealous. However, the one I’m rooting for will definitely have to be the soft-spoken folksy half-Korean Dia Frampton.

Reese Witherspoon Rocks

Monday, 06.6.2011

I rarely watch movie awards, especially the MTV Movie Awards because frankly, it’s a pile of trash and in the words of a friend, should be renamed “The Twilight Awards.”

But I happened to be working and being the massive multi-tasker that I am, I switch on the old television for…”research purposes.”

After sticking through hours of penis jokes (that aren’t funny) and watching Robert Pattinson make a total fool out of himself (as if playing an emo pale-faced bloodsucker wasn’t foolish enough), I stumbled across a gem of a speech Reese Witherspoon gave upon accepting her Generation Award.

“I just want to say to all the girls out there, I know it’s cool to be bad, I get it,” she said. “But it’s also possible to make it in Hollywood without a reality show! When I came up in this business, if you had a sex tape, you were embarrassed and you hid it under your bed. And if you take naked pictures of yourself with your cell phone, you hide your face!” Witherspoon ends with a smiling, “It’s possible to be a good girl. I’m gonna try to make it cool!”

I think you’re cool, Reese!

Is It Weird…

Wednesday, 04.27.2011

Is it weird that I’m 24 years old (yes, I’m 24. You can close your mouth up now) and I still get giddy at anything Disney Channel?

How Kobe Can Afford His Kobe Beef

Tuesday, 04.5.2011

Though I have lived in California all my life, walking the walk in my flip flops and talking the talk in my slight valley girl twinge, there is one question I am always asking:

“Is it still basketball season?”

Lisa Ling on Faith

Tuesday, 03.1.2011

Got to chat with Lisa Ling awhile ago about her new show, Our America. Some point in our conversation, we started getting deep. I had heard her speak on another show about how her new series deals a lot with faith–mainly her own exploration of it. That fascinated me–a journalist willing to explore something so not factually based, so often-divided, so often taboo to explore. (Though I suppose taboo is Ms. Ling’s favorite type of subjects to explore.)

I have this problem. I have a need to share with the world my passions and interests and hope that they will also enjoy it. Hence, this blog is born- to showcase some of the things I'm most fascinated with. Most of the posts relate to the media as it relates to me. (Blame the early twenties neurosis of thinking the world revolves around you). (More..)
